how to measure your waist

By far the most popular product created for women is shapewear. During the past few years its popularity increased tremendously and this was due mostly to all those famous celebrities from Hollywood who started wearing waist trainers and bodysuits and admitting this to the public.

Right now there are many women who use waist trainers with the purpose of losing weight and enhancing their waist lines, while other prefer bodysuits to smooth out their silhouettes and hide any fat rolls or tummy excess they might have.

1. WHY DOES YOUR WAIST MEASUREMENT MATTER?

Regardless for what you might need to the shapewear products it is highly important to know how to buy them and what size you are wearing for each item. Why? Well because shapewear has to fit you perfectly, not to be too tight or too lose, because it won’t accomplish its purpose.

So, unlike clothing, which can sometimes can be bought in a bigger size, shapewear products have to fit your silhouette just like a glove, perfectly!

Because the purpose of body shapers is to remodel your silhouette and to make you look slimmer by adding compression to your body, they can not be too loose. They also can’t be too tight either, because they will feel very uncomfortable and you won’t be able to wear them.

For these reasons it is highly important to find out your size and also to replace your body shapers whenever you lose weight. So, you will have to measure yourself constantly if you plan on taking off a few kilos with the help of shapewear products.

2. HOW TO MEASURE WAIST SIZE FOR WAIST TRAINER

1) WAIST TRAINER BELTS

waist trainer

For you to get the right size, get your measuring tape, and measure exactly one-two inches above your belly button. You should feel that this is the slimmest part of your midsection.

If you're having a difficult time finding the smallest part of your waist, follow this easy step-by-step process:

measure your waist size1. Don't wear a shirt or lift your top. You can put on a thin tank or blouse. Then, find the gap between your lowest rib and the upper crest of your hip bone.

2. Wrap your measuring tape around. Ensure that it's perfectly horizontal all-around your waist.

3. Do not tightly squeeze your waist or suck your tummy in to get the correct waist measurement.

You should be able to get the accurate waist size with this method.

You might be tempted to order a size smaller than your waist to have an extra "cinching" feeling. However, you want to avoid this because a waist trainer vest like this is already built to compress the upper body without overdoing it. Also, ordering a size smaller than your actual size might be uncomfortable and pleasant to wear.

2)How Do You Determine the Right Size for You?

Waist trainer sizes are not the same as clothing sizes, so you have to base which waist trainer you're going to on the size chart below every product at Feelingirls. Check out the example below for our waist trainer for women:

For this specific product, it's also essential for you to know your front and back length just for good measure. In addition, the size chart is both in inches and centimeters, so it's more convenient for you to understand.

3)High-Waist vs. Low-Waist

measure your size

The high waist or upper waist is one inch above the smallest part of your midsection. On the other hand, a low-waist is one inch below the smallest part of your midsection.

The sizing chart gives an illustration for which body a specific body size is for. For example, knowing your upper and lower waist size will help you better choose which waist trainer size you should get according to the sizing chart. If you check the waist section, it usually gives a range of waist inches. Each waist trainer doesn't just cater to an exact waist size.

Example: 28.3"-30.7"

When getting a post-surgical compression, you have to be wary of the bust, waist, and hip measurements, especially if you've just given birth. There are times the bust or hip is more prominent than average, and there's nothing wrong with that!

Getting a full-body and waist trainer is ideal for getting an overall body shaping that you'll be comfortable in. If your waist is not proportionate to your bust and hips, try going one size bigger or smaller, depending on if all your bust, waist, and hip will fit the sizing criteria.

If your waist is highly smaller compared to your bust and hip, then you might want to get a waist trainer with one to three belts to ensure that you'll still get the waist-cinching effect that you're aiming for. Check out the size chart below for our post-surgical compression:size chart

3. HOW TO MEASURE WAIST SIZE FOR SHAPEWEAR

size chart

Here's an easy guide on how you can measure your waist size for different shapewear styles, and some tips will make measuring your waist size to get the perfect shapewear easier:

1)Take Good Measurements of Your Waist, Hips, and Butt

A lot of the time, shapewear may fit your waist but not your hips and chest. The sizes for shapewear are mainly based on the core but be sure to check the size chart as well.

The primary reason why you should mainly base the shapewear size on your waist is for you to get a practical waist-slimming effect. The rest of your body will be fitted with body slimming body shaper that can help eliminate:

  • Fat rolls
  • Muffin Tops
  • Bra Fat

2)Measure Your Waist and Body for a Full Bodysuit

For full bodysuits that can help slim down other parts of your body like waist, thighs, and even arms, you can measure your bust, waist, butt, thighs, or arms.

Our Plus Size Slimming Bodysuit is well-loved because of how comfortable it is and its effectiveness in sucking the stomach. If you have love handles, then this would be a perfect shaper for your body.

Our bodysuits have stretchable fabrics that will accommodate your form. However, you shouldn't choose a size smaller than your actual one because it wouldn't help create a smooth body curve.

Have you ever worn a blouse too tight, and it feels like you're about to pop out? That's what will happen if you get shapewear too small. If you had to choose between a smaller or bigger size, go for a slightly bigger size because it will still conform to your form and smoothen any fat bulges.

3) If You Want a Slim Waist, Measure for a Slimming Shapewear to Get an Exact Fit

A lot of women go for slimming shapewear for that sexy hourglass figure. For slimming shapewear, your waist size matters the most. All you have to do is get a tape measure and wrap it around above your belly button to get the correct number.

Measuring your bra and hips size are equally important to measuring your waist, especially if you want a butt lifting bodysuit that covers your entire upper torso. This way, you won`t have to suffer by wearing a shapewear too small or too big for your bust and hips.

Our Lycra backless shapewear is stretchable and has excellent materials. It`s a great investment, especially if you often wear sexy tiny dresses. You don`t even have to wear a bra! You can just put on nipple pads or tapes, and wear your slimming bodysuit from Feelingirl.

For shapewear like thong slimming bodysuit or full-body shaper, knowing your bra size will help you best identify the right shaper for you. Here's how:

  • # FIND YOUR BAND SIZE
  1. Wear an unpadded bra without any wire.
  2. Align the tape measure horizontally under your bust.
  3. Ensure that the tape measure isn't too tight or too loose.
  • # FIND YOUR BUST SIZE
  1. Place the tape measure around the fullest part of your bust by wrapping it.
  2. The tape measure must be aligned at band level.
  3. Take a deep breath. The tape measure shouldn't be too loose or too tight. It's your chest size.
  • # FIND YOUR CUP SIZE

Finding your cup size involves a little subtraction but nothing too complex! First, subtract your band size from your bust size. Then, the difference is as follows:

1" = A cup

2” = B cup

3” = C cup

4” = D cup

5” = DD cup

6” = DDD cupsize chart4)Choose Shapewear That Fit Your Body Shaping Needs, and Measure Your Body Based on What's Needed Most

PRODUCT: FEELINGIRL WOMEN PLUS SIZE FULL BODY SHAPER SLIMMING BODYSUIT

Let's say our Feelingirl model has this measurement:

Bust – 33"

Waist – 29"

Hips: 35"

Pant Size: 9

Which size of shapewear do you think she needs to get if she wants to buy our full bodysuit? Let's take a closer look at the sizing chart!

size chart

Since our Feelingirl model has a 33" bust, she can get an XS. She also has 35" hips and a pant size of 9, which still fits the XS size. However, if you look at the waist size, she won't fit in an XS. There's no problem with this at all! All she needs to do is to size up according to her waist size.

If you check the size chart of our full-body shaper,  a medium (M) size will meet her waist, hips, bust, and pant sizes! We can finally say that she has found the appropriate fit for her body!

high waist shaper shorts

Let's say our Feelingirl model has this measurement:

Bust – 41"

Waist – 37"

Hips: 41"

Which size of shapewear do you think she needs to get if she wants to buy our high-waist shaper shorts? Let's take a closer look at the sizing chart!

size chart

Our Feelingirl model has a 41" bust and 37” hips which means she can easily fit in an extra large (XL).

However, she has a 37" waist that won't fit in an extra large high-waist shaping short. That's why she needs to size up to XXL, which can accommodate 35.4-37.8" waist size and 43.5-45.5” hip size. Though the hip part may be a little bit bigger on her, XXL is the recommended size so that both her waist and hips would fit into the shapewear.

plus size waist trainer corset

PRODUCT: FEELINGIRL PLUS SIZE STEEL BONES WAIST TRAINER CORSET WITH 3 WAIST BELTS

Let's say our Feelingirl model has this measurement:

Bust – 41"

Waist – 38"

Hips: 41"

Which size of plus-size steel bones corset do you think she needs to get if she wants to buy our waist cincher? Let's take a closer look at the sizing chart!

size chart

According to the size chart, all you need is the waist size because the bust and hips aren't as covered as the waist. Based on our example, our Feelingirl model has 38". If you look at the left part of the size chart, she can fit both the 4XL and 5XL. Which one should she choose when she has two options?

The only answer is based on different factors like comfort. If she is a beginner in wearing waist trainers, she should start with the bigger one, which is 5XL so that she won't feel too stuffy. However, if she has experience wearing waist trainers and wants to add a new one to her cinchers collection, she can opt for a 4XL.

double belt latex waist trainer

PRODUCT: FEELINGIRL DOUBLE STRAPS LATEX WAIST TRAINER

Let's say our Feelingirl model has this measurement:

Bust – 33"

Waist – 31"

Hips: 38"

Which size of double straps waist cincher do you think she needs to get if she wants to buy our latex waist trainer? Let's take a closer look at the sizing chart!

size chart

Let's check the size chart; like most waist trainers, it doesn't require the hips, pants, or bust sizes. All you need to focus on is the waist size. Since our example has a 31" waist or 78.41 cm, she can fit into an extra-large (XL).

5. REDUCING YOUR WAIST MEASUREMENTS

Are you tempted to reduce your waist measurement and get a smaller waist trainer? The best way to do this is to wear a waist trainer that perfectly fits you first to wear it consistently and even work out to reduce waist size inches. Once you have lost an inch or a few inches, that's the only time you can get a waist trainer that's smaller compared to your older one. We don't recommend reducing your waist measurement to your actual one because you'll feel uncomfortable and stuffy if you wear an incorrect size of waist trainer. You can only size down if it still matches the size chart's guide like our previous example for plus-size steel bones waist trainer corset.
